In this four hour class, we will learn the basics of self defense, starting with our safety framework of Awareness, Avoidance, Assertiveness and Action to harrassment and attack. Learn and apply body mechanics and leverage to break out of holds/grabs/chokes and learn to focus on your strengths, using a stronger, bigger part of your body to counteract against wearker more vulnerable parts of an attacker's body. Rather than being overcome by fear by a bigger, stronger more aggressive, violent person, we learn to see their vulnerable points (like: knee cap, nose, solar plexus, etc) and hit there with power and focus (eg. use your knee, elbow, heel, etc). The point is to use the element of surprise to quickly release any holds, counter attack to cause pain and/or damage and run away to a safe place. This class is suitable for girls age 12 and up, and adults of any age and fitness level.
It is 35.00 and you must register through Hastings Park/Templeton Pool Community Centre. Wear loose, comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle and snack.
